Kofiau, 1 February 2025

We have hopped north to the next island in Raja Ampat, Kofiau. We moored on the north side and they got us up early for breakfast as canoes from the nearby village, Kampung Deer, were meant to come along side at 7am. That didn’t happen because there was quite a swell, but we were bundled into tenders and approached the village where the canoes circled us and there was drumming and dancing. We landed in the middle of the village where there was more drumming and dancing, then we were taken on a walk around the village. If there was commentary we couldn’t hear it, but the walk wound along the concrete paths between houses and it felt like we saw quite a lot of the town. Mostly weathered wooden huts, some of which appeared boarded up but were still lived in.
The early start meant we were back in the ship by 10am and able to read for a couple of hours. During this time they moved the ship to the west. The crew said we were going to Pulau Boo Kecil, but Google Maps is very clear we only went to Aai Berar Kecil. This isn't the first time there has been confusion but I think it's possible things have a couple of names.

After lunch I went out for a snorkel. It was pretty good, in mostly deeper water with nice coral and lots of fish. Some more observant people saw manta rays but I’m never in the right place.

The evening went quietly much like every other.
