Ayu, 4 February 2025

Another day, another new island. Today Ayu, which is a little different in being a coral atoll with a large surrounding reef. It seems a long way from anywhere and I was surprised that there looks to be a village there.

We didn’t set foot on the island. In the morning there was a snorkel but the weather was pretty rough and I wanted to rest my knee some more, as it’s been stiffer since the walk to try to see the birds of paradise two days ago. We just read and watched a documentary in the lounge. There was another snorkelling trip in the afternoon and I thought ‘d probably never be here again. It was quite fun, in part because it was a bit rougher and there was a current, so you could slowly swim into the current and then let it carry you back. But it seemed shorter than some other trips as I think it tired people out a bit quicker. I didn’t see anything exceptional but there were lots of fish and a mixture of corals.

Back to the ship and the rest of the day went as usual.
