Manokwari, 9 February 2025

By late last night the weather had settled down entirely and everything was back to normal.
Manokwari is the biggest town we’ve seen since Darwin. It’s set around a harbour containing the island of Mansilam. We didn’t get to see the town itself; this morning people went snorkeling. There were the usual welcoming dances and singing, which are really quite interesting. And while we were near the water there was a strong breeze that made everything pleasant. After all that we walked up to the statue of Jesus at the top of the hill. This turned out to be steep and hot work. The return trip was slowed by people frequently stopping us and wanting to have their photo taken with us. Which seems a fair exchange for the many photos we take of them.
Like the recent villages there were a few stalls of handicrafts, but everything is wooden, woven or shells, and we’d be unlikely to get it into Australia.
So that was it, our last excursion of the cruise.
